![]() Endurance, meanwhile, is exactly what you’d expect, though with races topping out at eight minutes we’re hardly talking Le Mans. ![]() The good thing about this structure is that you can spend the early part of the game focusing on the stuff you like best. Love touring cars but not all that silly drift-racing nonsense? Well, you can keep doing the former and leave the latter until you want to unlock the GRID events. It’s all slightly lacking in personality, without the car collection vibe of a Forza or Gran Turismo, but it puts the emphasis on the racing, which is arguably where it belongs.Īnd when you do race, it’s mostly great. The handling now feels tighter and more authentic than the peculiar arcade/sim hybrid style of GRID2, and if you play without the driving aids switched on you’ll find it demanding but not overly punishing. It doesn’t have the grit of Gran Turismo 6 or the dynamic feel of Forza 5, but it’s really not very far behind. Damage also plays a genuine part, not just crumpling the bodywork, but affecting – even wrecking – the way your car drives. Overall: It's not a bad game for a casual racing fan or a hardcore sim racing enthusiast, cockpit view needs to be patched asap though. That’s a big plus point over both Microsoft and Sony’s games. AI pace can be inconsistent from track-to track. Why on earth should I care if my team-mate does well? I'm only there for my self, not the team. Negatives: - The whole teammate, team stuff doesn't have enough depth. Career mode is pretty good, with a wide variety of disciplines. Physics for a simcade aren't too bad although some cars feel like they need a bit of work. The music can get repetitive, but its surprisingly bearable, or you can disable it entirely in the options menu. Positives: - The cameras each have their own unique feel to them but the roll-bar cam is quite nice with just the right amount of FOV set that allows you to see both what's in front and what's next to you, I highly recommend you use this and not the 3rd person camera to get the most out of GRID Autosport. This next section I'll be going through a few positives & negatives about the game as I know people don't want to read on and on and on. Codemasters, please do tell me what the point is of having a cockpit with blurred mirrors? It's almost impossible to enjoy the game with no HUD on as you have no way to tell what position you're in or how many laps to go, or when to change gears, (I go by sound, but not being able to see my engines RPM or shift lights is utterly ridiculous). This is by far the games' biggest issue that could have been EASILY fixed. Everything is blurred out so you can't see the steering wheel or mirrors. (With only the HUD on, if you want to count that as an assist) After completing the first 2 introduction races I hopped into the Open-Wheel career path and completed my first season there, it was a lot of fun, just driving different tracks and cars (Formula 3) to what I was normally used to. I was able to jump right in & race hard and fast from the get-go, with the AI set to Hard difficulty. Whilst it isn't a sim, I can happily sit down & play for a few hours just to take a break from the serious games. Coming from a sim racers perspective (iRacing, Assetto Corsa, rFactor) it's definitely playable. Whilst it isn't a It's not actually that bad. I can't wait to see what Codemasters have up their sleeves for next gen as they are truly the masters of racing devs. I would have liked a fresh take on the first Grid mechanics but this is an amazing racing game nevertheless, and next to Dirt series and GT 5, the best racing game on the PS3. The mixture of racing styles is brilliant and a great move, keeping the game fresh. The gameplay is wonderfully challenging and reminds me of the first Grid (the best of the series) far more than the mess that Grid 2 was. It's not a visual treat either (unusual for Codemasters) but holds its own. Crazy AI and far more of an emphasis on SIM than Arcade racing, I found myself going to an easy setting just to get into the game. As an avid racing fan, on normal settings, this game is very hard. Crazy AI and far more of an I'm going to start with the bad news first. ![]() I'm going to start with the bad news first.
